BSNL, MTNL Fail to Generate any 3G Uptake

3ghome.jpgBSNL and MTNL launched their 3G services with a lot of pomp and show few months back. Being PSU's. they got the spectrum allocation much before the private players. BSNL even roped in Deepika Padukone as its brand ambassador and did invest a lot on print as well as TV based advertising. The company even partnered with Nokia for offering its 3G services on Nokia mobile handsets. After all this, one would have expected BSNL's 3G services to do good and rope in good number of 3G subscribers. But no, this is not the case at all with both BSNL and MTNL's 3G base. The figures that were shared by the telecom authorities of India tell that BSNL's 3G base is around 10,700 and that of MTNL is around 900, which is really pathetic. So what might be the reason of such low adoption of 3G services by these providers. One could be that, both these companies have very less market share as compared to the big guns like AirTel and Vodafone and most of their market lies in rural India, where only basic services are being sought after by a mobile user. The other could be that, not all the people in India are ready for 3G, they just need basic services and 3G usage and demand will slowly increase overtime, when there are more and more other service providers who give services that can be used by a mobile user who has 3G services enabled.

Guys over at GSM Arena spotted a Nokia 5800 Commercial, which actually shows a device that is not Nokia 5800 but supposedly the Nokia 5900 or the Nokia 5800i that leaked few days back on the FCC website. The phone's camera menu is a bit different and so is the metallic trim on the outside.



Nokia 5530 Starts Shipping

Nokia5530.jpgNokia has officially launched the toned down version of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the Nokia Nokia 5530 XpressMusic. The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is also a S60 based touch screen handset from Nokia and what sets it apart from the 5800 is that it is a entry level handset. The handset has started shipping and would be available in most of the parts of the World by August 11 2009. The handset looks very similar to the Nokia 5800 but has a home screen contacts bar that has a scrolling feature that lacked in the Nokia 5800. It also lacks 3G, which was there in Nokia 5800. The Nokia 5530 also sports a media bar which give you one touch access to your multimedia content and the phone will be available in Black and Red color and not in Blue color. Nokia 5530 also sports a 3.2 meg snapper, with 70MB internal memory and 4Gb microSD card support. Another major change in the handset that the three similar looking key present on the Nokia 5800 and they are replaced by touch sensitive call and function button on the Nokia 5530. Nokia is also all set to launch an upgraded version of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and it will be called Nokia 5800i XpressMusic. The handset was spotted on the FCC website. Tata DoCoMo Chooses Pooja Chopra as its Brand Ambassador

Tata DoCoMo, the newest GSM services provider on the Indian mobile scene has chosen Pooja Chopra as its Brand Ambassador. For the uninformed, Pooja Chopra is the Femina Miss India World 2009. So what so special about Tata DoCoMo choosing someone who is lesser known on the media front, well you are really uninformed than. Pooja Chopra is also one of the youngest people who has climbed the Mount Everest. This feat of her's fits with Tata DoCoMo's branding of its GSM service. Tata is branding it as a service for DO-Ers. DO-Ers is the brand theme for Tata DoCoMo and its signifies something that your achieve doing something different from the normal people. There will be lot of such people who are the real DO-Ers in their life. That's why Tata DoCoMo's Tag line says, " Why repeat yourself, Do the new!!"
