Firefox Releases Alpha Version of Fennec - Hope To Change Mobile Browsing Experience

Posted: 11 Feb 2009 02:12 PM PST

Firefox Mobile just released a very early version of their upcoming mobile browser Fennec. After the great browsing experience provided by safari on iPhone, there is growing demand for a better browser for other mobile platforms.

And Fennec is a step towards that. Please note that the browser is still in very early stage of development but still Mozilla is releasing to get users feedback to improve it before the final stable release.

From Firefox Mobile

This is an early developer release of the mobile version of Firefox, for testing purposes only, intended to:

* get wider community feedback on our approach to the user experience
* engage Mozilla community teams, including localizers, add-on developers, and testers
* get feedback from Web developers

The focus of development so far has been on building a new user interface that reflects Firefox’s design principles, and adds touch screen support and other features that are appropriate for mobile phones and other handheld devices. We plan to do further alpha releases which focus on performance, including projects like TraceMonkey, speculative parsing, and many Fennec and Gecko optimizations. But in the meantime, we feel it is important to make this early release available to continue to grow the community and gather feedback as early as possible in the development process.

You can download the install file of fennec from Download Fennec Link. More about Fennec on its Release Notes Page.

$99 iPhone May Become A Reality

Posted: 11 Feb 2009 07:57 AM PST

This comes from RBC analyst Mark Abramsky, who pointed that $99 will not be a iPhone nano but a iPhone with lower resolution camera or without a 3G internet or GPS support.

Some points from his study :

# The main cost reductions would come from fewer features — not a crappy ‘iPhone nano’ or something without a multi-touch screen. Abramsky thinks it might have a lower-resolution camera, no 3G Internet access or GPS, and a cheaper data plan (~$15/month) with a usage cap. We agree that lowering the monthly bill would help drive iPhone sales, but carriers won’t be thrilled.

# Meanwhile, the iPhone 3G will get feature upgrades, such as a better camera, video capabilities.

# Cheaper iPhone will eat into iPhone 3G and iPod sales. And a lower subsidy and lower margins means Apple will have to sell three times as many to make the same gross profit from one iPhone 3G. He expects fiscal 2010 iPhone gross margins to shrink to 35%-37% from 50%+

$99 iPhone, RBC analyst Mark Abramsky

Well if subsidy is going to be less then India will also see iPhone price decrease. Like as you can see in the chart, so if even after adding the subsidy it comes around $299 which will stand for around Rs 15,000. If this happens iPhone will surely enter the Indian market in full flow.

Lets see if some more concrete news comes around this, we will update you as soon as it comes.

iPhone Turns Into WebServer

iPhone app development is reaching new heights everyday. Recently a iPhone app ServersMan was released which turn iPhone into a webserver, which means by using the app you can host your websites on iPhone.

iPhone Apps, Iphone server app, Serversman, Serversman@iphone

From ReadWriteWeb

Once the app is installed, PCs on the internet can access the iPhone to upload or download files through a browser or they can use the webDAV protocol. If the PC and the iPhone are on the same network, the PC can connect directly. If they are on separate networks, then FreeBit’s VPN software will engage the connection.

Currently the app is only available in Japanese App Store but it will soon be released in English and other countries app store also.

App creators FreeBit are also thinking to release ServerMans for windows mobiles.

Amazing :-)
