| Posted: 05 Jan 2010 12:09 PM PST  Nexus One, Google's Android 2.1 based phone is now official. The phone was launched by HTC's CEO Peter Chou at an Android event in the US. The specs of the phone match to the ones leaked few days back. According to Mashable, The specs match previous leaks. It's a 3.7″ AMOLED display with a trackball. - It comes with features such as a light sensor, GPS, and accelerometer. These are all features pioneered by Apple's iPhone. - It's 130 grams in weight and 11.5 mm in width, about the width of a standard #2 pencil. - The camera is 5MP with LED flash. - The audio has received an upgrade. It has two microphones, one of which is used for noise cancellation. - Customization is a key to the Nexus One. There are five home screens to customize your interface. - Google showed off some of its dynamic touchscreen features of the software. For example, one of the wallpapers is a lake with leaves. When you touch it, it will ripple. It's quite nifty, actually. - They worked with the team at CoolIris to visualize photons on the Nexus One in a 3D environment. If you tap on an album, you'll be able to quickly scan and load photos. You can also tip and dip photos based on your hand motions and the accelerometer. - Every text field is voice-enabled. Every time you speak, it will process your speech into text. It gets better and better the more you use it. - You'll be able to buy the phone at the Google web store, which was leaked last week. You can find it at Google.com/Phone. It costs $179 on T Mobile with a two-year contract. - It will be on Verizon in Spring 2010. Europe's Vodafone will also support the Nexus One later this year.

| NAMP Exclusive: Motorola Droid Hands-On and Live Pics Posted: 05 Jan 2010 08:23 AM PST Got my hands today on the Android based Motorola Droid , which was launched in the US few months back or should I say last year. Its also called the Motorola Milestone, maybe because its like a milestone in Motorola's history. The phone sports a touch screen as well as a slide out QWERT keyboard. The keyboard sliding mechanism is not very smooth and while using you might feel that the keyboard is getting stuck. The phone is not available in India and the only Asian country where it is launched officially is Hong Kong. The phone sports a massive 3.7 inch capacitive touch screen (any Internet freak's delight), 5 meg snapper (with low light capability), Wi-Fi Connectivity, 3.5 mm standard headphone jack, inter-changeable battery. It runs Android 2.0.1 and has Google's application stack and not the Motoblur interface for Android. Whats makes the phone so fast is its processor, which is an Arm Cortex A8 CPU, 256 MB ROM and 512 MB RAM. The Droid feels good in hand with a crisp touch screen, which is responsive and has some of the cool locking/unlocking and muting/unmuting effects I have seen. Mind you, this is the first time Droid has appeared on an India based mobile phone blog, NAMP's small but has its sources you know. Anyway, the Droid is available in the US exclusively with Verizon and its the first phone to ship with Google Maps Navigation Beta pre-installed. One more feature, which really appealed to me in the Droid is the Kinetic Scrolling feature, which is super fast and responsive. Having played with the iPhone, I think the Droid's KE is at par with that of the iPhone. Also, the QWERT (Y is not there its in the last row) keyboard on the Droid is reasonably good, you will take time to get used to it but after a while of usage it works ok and eventually you will like it. Droid sports a 5 meg snapper, which is slow when snapping and focusing. The quality of the output is ok. Check out the pics and also the video. [All the pics were clicked using the E72; even the video was shot using the same phone and thats why the quality of the video is not that great]
Check out the huge touch screen. It looks even cool when the huge screen lights up with menus!!
The back side features a 5 meg snapper and a speaker which is really big for a mobile phone. Don't go on the maroon color, its the color of the Seidio cover. This Droid was black in color.
Thats the camera key, which takes its color from the D-Pad (shown later) and the volume control key.

The top of the phone features a power/lock/unlock button and also the 3.5mm standard headphone jack.
The slide out QWERTY keyboard and now you can see the crisp screen resolution of the Droid with Android 2.0.1 goodness!!
The keyboard, which is pretty ok to use. The keys should have been more elevated. The slide out mechanism of the Droid is somewhat weird. At first it feels like the slide mechanism is missing and you have to literally pullout the keyboard from the phone.

This a like a app locker. Touch the arrow at the bottom of the screen and this app thing opens up. There are lots of apps available and you can get more from Android Market.

On-screen QWERTY keyboard.
These are touch sensitive buttons. The buttons helps you in going back, quick help, going back to home screen and search. The search option lets you search anything thats available inside the phone just like iPhone's spotlight search.
