| Nokia E75 Review Part II - Multimedia Posted: 26 Mar 2009 10:59 AM PDT The following review is the second part of the E75 review by me. I would advice you to read the Part I of the Nokia E75 Review and then proceed to this part. Hope you find this review useful. Multimedia - Multimedia experience on Nokia phones is always good. It has always tried to strike a good balance when it comes to multimedia and a mobile phone. As E75 belongs to E Series range (Enterprise Phones) do not expect any high-end multimedia that you might get in the N Series range, like the N95 or the N82. E75 is a phone that targets an enterprise mobile phone user and not some one who is buying a phone to satisfy his/her quest for multimedia and mobile phone convergence. Having said that, the Camera and Music player experience on the E75 is ok not very good and anyone who is buying the phone should not over expect from E75. Apart from the camera and the music player, the other multimedia functions menus that the E75 has to offer are, Real Player, FM Radio & Internet Radio, Music Store, Video Center, Podcasting, Recorder, N Gage games (by the way, E75 is the first E Series phone with N Gage support, I guess, Nokia realized that every enterprise user has a gamer hidden in his/her personality). I wont be focusing much on these functions except the camera and the music player.
Nokia E75 Music Experience - Though the E75 belongs to Nokia's Enterprise portfolio of mobile devices but presence of a 3.5mm standard headphone jack will attract the attention of a user who listens to music on the go. You can use your favorite pair of headphones with the E75 without caring much about the converter, thanks to this standard headphone jack. The E75 has one speaker at the back and it is not as loud compared to what Nokia XpressMusic phones boast of, but who cares this is E Series, hardcore business phone. The pair of headphones supplied with the E75 do a decent job. They cannot be compared with your favorite pair of headphones. Heavy bass tracks on the E75 wont sound great as compared to how they sound on Nokia's N Series and XpressMusic range of handsets. The music player in the E75 is pretty simple to operate and I did not see much advancement here. Its the same.
You can set up your music library as per your favorite Artists, Albums, Playlists, Songs, Podcasts, Genres and Composers. The controls of the music player are easy to operate and understand. I didn't like the visualizations that you can activate along with the song you are playing. The output is sluggish though. One noticeable improvement in the E75's music player is its tighter integration with Nokia Music Store. The overall music experience on the Nokia E75 is ok not that great. If you are considering music as your top priority and planning to buy the E75, then I would advice you to go for the N Series handsets of Nokia like the N82 or the XpressMusic range from Nokia. The Nokia E75 review does not end here. In the next part of the review I will tell you about GPS, Nokia Maps, Email and Internet Browsing on the Nokia E75, so stay tuned. |
| Smart Phone Market On the Rise Posted: 26 Mar 2009 04:23 AM PDT
iPhone OS, Symbian, RIM OS, WinMO and Palm were the tops 5 smart phone OS in Feb 2009. Surprisingly, Symbian's market share went down to 43% in Feb 2009 from 64% in August 2008, where as iPhone OS's share went up to 33% in Feb 2009 from just 4% in August 2008. This clearly shows that Symbian is increasingly facing competition from the iPhone OS in the smart phone OS market. And with the new iPhone OS 3.0, which has a host of enticing features and functionalities launched, Symbian might face more tough times ahead. Head over to DigiTimes to read the full report on the Smart Phone market in Feb 2009. |

| Tag Heuer Launches Website for the Meridiist Posted: 26 Mar 2009 03:38 AM PDT ![]() After launching its first ever luxury phone, the Meridiist, last year, Tag Heuer has now launched a very catchy site for the same phone. The website is designed in such a way that a suer can go through the series of photos, videos and animations to get a better understanding of this new Vertu killer from Tag Heuer. Tag Heuer Meridiist costs around 3400 to 4500 Euros and if you are planning to go for the diamond finished model then, whooping 8000 Euros. So whats so speacial about the Meridiist? The phone has 430 hand assembled components and is made of corrosion resistant steel that is used in watch making. Now Tag Heuer cannot go wrong with this technology as they are churning high-end watches from years. Apart from that, the QVGA display is protected by 60 carat Sapphire crystal. Other features include, second OLED screen, Bluetooth, 2 mega pixel snapper (must have gone for 5 megs man!!), Media player and other basic functions of a mobile phone. |

Nokia E75 Camera - Coming to the Camera function of the E75, it features a 3.2 mega pixel snapper with Auto focus. The camera features 8 scene modes, which include, Auto, User Defined, Portrait, Night, Night Portrait, Landscape and Sports. In the all the modes the camera output is average. There is no enhancement on the quality of the output over the E71. The other functions in the camera mode include, LED flash (not that great), sequence mode, timer mode and sequence mode. You can directly go to the gallery from the camera mode and check out the pictures you have clicked. Browsing through the pictures in the gallery is easy but it should be more like you get in Nokia's N Series range of mobile phones. One more flaw, which I think should be rectified is that, when you are on the home screen and you have to click using the camera and you press the camera button on the right hand side, the camera does not start. If you plan to click photos at night using the night mode then it will leave you disappointed as the output is not that great. You can see some sample images from the Nokia E75's camera.

Though many of the mobile handset makers are facing the adverse effects of recession, Smart phone market worldwide has grown in the past 6 months, says AdMob. The demand of smart phones rose from 26% to 33% in Feb 2009. The tops 5 smart phones were iPhone, Nokia N70, Blackberry 8300, Nokia N80 and Nokia N73. Apple was way ahead of the other 4 in terms of share in Feb 2009.
