Though the HTC Dream, first handset running on Google's Android operating system surfaced on one of India's popular online mobile retailing site, there was no official news about the launch of the handset in Asia. Finally, HTC Dream today has been launched in Asia making its way to Singapore and Australia. This is the first launch of the Dream after the big launch in the US market last year. Now as it will be coming to Singapore and Australia, I guess the days are not far when we Indians get this first ever Android based handset. There is now news on the Asia pricing of the market as of now. The price of the handset in India will somewhere be around 25,000 INR. Many of HTC's phone come bundled with AirTel plan so there is a high possibility that the HTC G1 will come with a AirTel plan. HTC has not made any official announcement regrading the India launch but there were rumors that, the company would be launching the phone in December 2008 but that has gone way back now. With Singapore and Australia launch, we Indians are waiting!! Apart from the HTC Dream, the company has also announced of launching their second Android based handset, HTC Sapphire.

Toshiba TG01 - Fastest, Slim Windows Mobile based Smart Phone

Posted: 04 Feb 2009 10:58 PM PST

Ok here is one more iPhone Killer on the block. There have been many iPhone killers before this one but none of them was able to actually kill the multi-touch bliss iPhone whether it is the XPERIA X1 or the Nokia 5800 or the Blackberry Storm. Anyway, the new iPhone killer comes from the popular electronics manufacturer, Toshiba and is named as TG01, seems like the name of some kind of Tank.

Toshiba TG01.jpg

The TG01 is 9.9mm thick ultra-slim handset and has a massive 4.1 inch touch screen display with a resolution of 800x480 pixels. The phone's touch screen is powered by Toshiba's REGZA technology. The phone runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 OS and no other Windows Mobile OS based smartphone today boasts that kind of massive touch screen interface. So actually this phone might be a threat for other Windows Mobile based handsets that are there in the market. The other thing that makes this phone a clear winner over its Windows Mobile based siblings is that, it has a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, fastest on the block. The TG01 has a unique striped menu interface.

Other features of the phone include custom built 3D touch interface with gesture control, HSDPA connectivity, A-GPS, Wi-Fi Connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0, G-Sensor (built-in three dimensional accelerometer), 3.2 mega pixel snapper and a front camera for video calling. The phone has expandable memory with microSD support, Flash DivX support. The phone's features are pretty impressive, but I am not sure if Windows Mobile will complement all the cool features that this phone has. I am sure that, Toshiba will soon start thinking of having other mobile OS like Android or the LiMo Platform on this phone as a dedicated smart phone junkie would prefer something good over Windows Mobile OS. Anyway, the phone has some really cool features that are not there in the iPhone but it wont be able to steal iPhone's market acceptance. Yeah, one thing is for sure it will be a real threat for other WinMo based mobile handsets/smart phones.
