Posted: 21 Dec 2008 04:38 PM PST

tube1.jpgAlmost a month back Nokia confirmed the launch of its first touch screen phone, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, for the Indian market. It has also announced that Nokia 5800 will be launched in the month of Jan 2009. Till now everything seems to be going on the right track as Nokia India has opened up a pre-booking site for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. In order to get yourself listed for the pre-booking of Nokia Tube, you need to give your personal and contact details and choose your nearest Nokia Priority Dealer from the list given for each city. It seems that the phone will be initially available with Nokia Priority Dealers and they will get in touch with the person who has pre-booked the phone. This is a recent trend where, companies open pre-bookings for phones, which are hyped and are eagerly awaited. Same thing happened in India, when AirTel and Vodafone opened up pre-bookings of the iPhone 3G before it was launched. Almost 200,000 people pre-booked the phone but when the service providers announced their pricing for the iPhone, more than 50% of the people backed off. Anyway, let us see what kind of response will the pre-bookings of Nokia Tube will generate. Given the competitive pricing of the Tube, I guess the response will be great. Nokia Tube debuted last month in Russia and took the Russian market by storm people went crazy over this Nokia touch screen and it sold like hot cakes. For the Indian market also, Nokia must be expecting an opening like this.

25 Million Mobile Phones to Go Off-Air in India

Posted: 21 Dec 2008 07:21 AM PST

Indian Telecom Ministry is now pretty sure that it wants to cut off almost 25 million mobile phones from the network they are operating on, as these phones do not have a IMEI number or they have fake IMEI numbers. DoT or the Department of Telecommunications had already said that, it was going to come down hard on Chinese made mobile phones and also bar calls on these mobile phones. Now the service providers have been asked to not process calls made from such phones with fake or with no IMEI number. Currently there are 315 million mobile phones in the Indian market and out of them, 25 million phones have fake IMEI number or no IMEI number. Chinese mobile phones have proliferated in the Indian market as they do not have a traceable IMEI number and they have most of the high-end functions with cheap price tag. These phones are preferred by common man as well as anti social elements. The recent terrorist attacks on India have given evidence that most of the terrorists used Chinese mobile phones to communicate with each other. The fresh-in-mind gruesome terrorist attack on Mumbai also witnessed the use of Chinese mobile phones. It seems that, Indian government does not want to leave any stone unturned in cracking the proliferation of terrorism as well as Chinese mobile phones in India.
